FOOTBALL: Highland Springs Tops Big 12 High School Preseason Poll; Four County Teams Ranked

It's a unanimous #1 start to the 2016 season for the defending 5A state champions.

Highland Springs, now the hunted rather than the hunter, is the top team in the first NBC12/RVA Sports Network Big 12 High School Football Poll released Tuesday evening. The 14-1 Springers won their first state title since 1961 last December.

Other county teams in the poll include Hermitage, who begins at #4, setting up a Top 4 showdown Friday at Chester Fritz Stadium as the Panthers welcome the Springers for a 7pm game, Henrico, who ranks sixth as they look for a third straight playoff appearance, and Douglas Freeman, coming off a 9-2 campaign in 2015 winning their first nine games. The Rebels are ranked 11th.
