Rashad Robinson scored on an improbable 18-yard touchdown run with four seconds remaining tonight to give the Hermitage Panthers a stunning 25-21 win over Meadowbrook in the season opener for both teams.

Meadowbrook's Justin Miller, who gained 229 yards, scored his second touchdown of the night with 90 seconds left to give the Monarchs a 21-18 lead. The Panthers turned the ball over on downs on their next possession, giving the Monarchs the ball with 54 seconds left, Hermitage holding three timeouts.

Rather than give it to Miller to try to burn Panther timeouts, get a first down, and seal the win, Meadowbrook went into victory formation on each down, including on fourth down deep in their own territory, when quarterback D'Angelo Amos ran the ball into his own end zone for an apparent safety.

But that play, after a long delay, was negated due to an inadvertent whistle. The Monarchs punted and Hermitage took over on the Meadowbrook 41 with 27.5 seconds left.

One incompletion, two complete passes and an offsides penalty on Meadowbrook later, Hermitage was at the Meadowbrook 18. With 14 seconds left, Robinson escaped the pocket, took off up the middle, danced to his right, got inside the five, then dove toward the goal line. The far official signaled touchdown after the ball came loose when Robinson hit the ground with four seconds to go.

Hermitage now has won their last 14 season openers, dating back to 2001.

Pool play is completed, four teams have ended their journey at Glen Allen Stadium, while six teams still dream tonight of a Babe Ruth World Series Championship.

In today's action, in a morning battle of two American Division teams already eliminated from contention, Waterford, Connecticut outlasted Glacier, Montana, 7-6.

Next up, Boonville, Missouri needed a win and help from Glen Allen in order to clinch a National Division playoff berth, but Broomall-Newtown, Pennsylvania pitcher Luke Zimmerman kept Boonville off stride, throwing a one-hitter as B-N eliminated Boonville 12-0 in five innings. Boonville finished 1-3. Pennsylvania clinched the #2 seed from the National.

Next up was the American Division championship game, as two 3-0 teams, Phoenix, Arizona and Gainesville-Haymarket, Virginia collided. Down much of the game, Virginia roared back from a 3-0 deficit, scoring one in the sixth, then three in the seventh to take a 4-3 lead. Phoenix loaded the bases with nobody out, but Sammy Gonzalez struck out, then a sacrifice fly attempt on a fly ball to right field ended as a game-ending double play when the runner from third was thrown out trying to score the tying run.

Virginia now has the #1 American seed and a bye to Friday's 12:30pm semifinal.

In the day's final game, Glen Allen took a 5-0 lead into a 90-plus minute lightning delay, only to see Janesville, Wisconsin come back with four runs to shave the lead to one. Wisconsin, though, couldn't punch another aboard, and Glen Allen escaped with a 5-4 win, a 4-0 pool play record, and the #1 National seed.

Glen Allen will play in Friday's first semifinal at 10am.

Janesville, WI (National #3) vs. Phoenix, AZ (American #2)---5:00pm
