4A South Track Regional Results!

THE WRAP: Conference 11, 20 Tourneys Postponed Due To Storms, Updated Schedules

The expected stormy weather arrived first at Hanover High School, where Semifinal Wednesday barely began, then eventually arrived at Deep Run, where action was suspended due to a major electrical storm.

Except for a half-inning of softball, there was no action at the Conference 20 Jubilee at Hanover, as storms descended upon the area just before the 5pm start time. Over at Deep Run, only one game lasted long enough to become official, while two others were suspended as storms jammed pack with torrential rain and tremendous lightning overcame the West End.

Below are the updated schedules for both Conference Tournament Semifinal Rounds, including resumption of suspended games as well as a venue change for two matches tomorrow:

LACROSSE: Rebels Sweep Group Championships!

Douglas Freeman started the boys and girls Richmond Group playoffs on top, and finished that way.

The Rebels girls defeated Atlee tonight 9-6 to win the first-ever Richmond Group Tournament title, then watched as the boys did the same, scoring the last five goals of their match after watching a 5-1 lead disappear, Freeman upending Atlee 10-6.

The boys move to 16-1, the girls to 15-1, as both prepare for first round action this Friday, hosting a South Zone regional game against opponents to be announced. The girls match is currently scheduled for 6pm, the boys match will follow.

Anne Taylor was named Richmond Group Girls Lacrosse Coach of the Year, while Rebels goalkeeper, junior Jamie Lockwood, was named Girls Lacrosse Player of the Year.

THE WRAP: WEDNESDAY FINALS....

Mirror image, just an inning apart.

After Mills Godwin softball handed Patrick Henry its first loss on April 10th on a 7th inning solo home run, the Patriots returned the favor tonight on a solo home run by Ashley Samuels in the 6th inning. Candace Whittemore did the rest, striking out 12 as the Patriots defeated the Eagles 1-0.

The loss moves Mills Godwin to the #3 seed in the Conference 11 Tournament, their likely opponent in the first round on Monday is #6 seed Hermitage. The Eagles and Panthers split their two regular season contests.

2014 Richmond Group Lacrosse Tournament Brackets!

Here are the brackets and schedules for the Richmond Group Boys and Girls 2014 VHSL Lacrosse Tournaments beginning Thursday evening.

BOYS:
Game 1: #8 Hermitage at #1 Douglas Freeman (moved to Friday, 7:30pm)
Game 2: #4 Deep Run 13, #5 Glen Allen 8
Game 3: #3 Hanover 19, #6 Lee-Davis 5
Game 4: #2 Atlee 13, #7 Mills Godwin 1

Atlee and Hanover play in one semifinal, while Deep Run gets the Freeman/Hermitage winner in the other semifinal. Both will be held Monday, May 26th, 12pm at River City Sportsplex in Midlothian.

Boys Richmond Group Championship Game: Tuesday May 27th, 7:30pm at Randolph-Macon College.

GIRLS:
Game #1: #8 Hermitage at #1 Douglas Freeman (moved to Friday, 6pm)
Game #2: #4 Hanover 14, #5 Mills Godwin 6
Game #3: #3 Deep Run 21, #6 Glen Allen 8

Hanover and winner of Freeman/Hermitage play in one semifinal, while Atlee and Deep Run will play in the other semifinal, both taking place Monday May 26th, 12pm at River City Sportsplex in Midlothian.

Girls Richmond Group Championship Game: Tuesday May 27th, 5:30pm at Randolph-Macon College.

*--Quarterfinal matches being held at Lee-Davis are because Atlee cannot host due to Conference 11 and Conference 20 Track & Field Championships being held at Atlee High School Thursday and Friday.

NOTE: The Group Champion and Runner-Up each earn berths in the "South Zone" Tournament, the equivalent of a "Region" tourney, and one step away from the 1A-5A State Tournament.

For the Richmond Group, the playoff quarterfinal matchups are coming into view. They should be made official later Tuesday evening. For now, here are the standings:

(REMINDER: Games against non-VHSL teams do NOT count in standings with power ratings. Thus, Douglas Freeman, Atlee and Deep Run boys lacrosse, for example, each have one less loss in the standings that determine the power ratings that rank the teams for tournament play...)

NOTES: Modified ratings system will be used to set final standings and seeds for upcoming conference tournaments. In Conference 20, the regular season champion gets a bye into the conference tournament semifinals, meaning they only have to win one, rather than two, tournament games to clinch a berth in 4A South Region Tournament.

After posting their first-ever win over Atlee earlier this season, and coming off a come-from-behind 4-3 thrilling win Friday night over Lee-Davis for their first win over that program, the Glen Allen Jaguars are ready to make more history AND gain ground in the Conference 20 standings!

With Hanover falling twice since Friday, the Jaguars are within striking distance of first place in Conference 20 at 6-4, while the Hawks are at 7-2.
