Highland Springs, down by as many as 11 points to Cosby in the second half, fought back galliantly in the final quarter before committing a crucial foul with 1.1 seconds left, giving the Titans the chance to win their 3rd straight Times-Dispatch Invitational Tournament.
Dorothy Adomako, on her way to Georgetown, calmly sank both shots, and the Springer faithful at the Siegel Center were heartbroken. Cosby defeated Highland Springs 50-49. It's the second year in a row the Springers have lost in the final to the Titans, falling 69-57 in the 2012 finals.
Bri Justice scored most of her 13 points in the fourth quarter despite being saddled with four fouls. Najai Pollard had 10 points, a force inside in the second half comeback along with Cam Gaitling, who scored four during the stretch against the tall trees of Cosby. The Titans have five players at over six feet tall. Both Pollard and Gaitling are exactly six feet, and are the tallest players on the Springers' roster.
Tournament MVP Tyra Whitehead had 17 points to lead the Titans.
Justice and Hermitage standout Destini Walker both were named to the All-Tournament team.
The Springers fall to 7-1 and will next take the court Tuesday January 7th when they host archrival Varina.
