TDIT: Highland Springs Boys Fall in 3rd Place Game....

There wasn't a true second scoring option. They were beaten badly on their own glass. Thus, after a strong start, Highland Springs fell behind and simply couldn't find a way back.

Armstrong knocked off the Springers in the Boys 3rd Place Game at the 2013 Times-Dispatch Invitational Tournament Monday evening, 56-48. Highland Springs finishes 1-2 in the tourney and move to 5-3 as they now get Winter Break.

A.J. Gaston led the Springers with 14 points, but only two after intermission. Mike'l Simms scored 8 points, 6 of them late in the third quarter to keep Highland Springs within single digits.

But they couldn't find an answer for Robert Valentine. The sharpshooting senior guard had 20 points to lead Armstrong, knocking down three of four free throws down the stretch to extend the Wildcat lead into double digits.

The Springers get back to action at archrival Varina Tuesday January 7th, and must face the Wildcats twice more in regular season play as teams play their old "District" schedules this season. The games will be January 17th at Armstrong, and Valentine's Night for Senior Night at Highland Springs....
