WEEK 6 FINALS:

UPSET: Varina loses to Atlee at home in an overtime thriller, 31-28 on a 27-yard field goal by Ryan Molin on a field reduced to a mudpit at Varina High School.  Blue Devils now 5-1 and without starting quarterback Tim Minor, injured in the third quarter and taken to a local hospital for treatment after the game (he was on the sidelines late in the game on crutches).

HCS can report hopefully he will not miss much time and that the injury, at first thought, was not season-ending.  Stay with us for updates.

Meanwhile, Douglas Freeman goes to 6-0 for the first time in a generation, 13-9 slugfest over archrival Mills Godwin, whose four-game win streak ends. Freeman now travels next Friday to Chester Fritz Stadium for the battle with Hermitage, now 4-2 after a 69-14 whitewashing over winless Deep Run.

Kudos to J.R. Tucker for winning their third straight, a 47-7 thrashing over winless Patrick Henry at Homecoming at Fred Wells Stadium; the Tigers are back in the 4A playoff discussion.

Highland Springs made it 5 in a row, 48-12 over Armstrong; the 5-1 Springers travel to red-hot Lee-Davis next Friday in a game that can be heard LIVE HERE on HenricoCountySports.net!  The Confederates walloped Glen Allen 38-6.

Henrico lost its third straight, shut out for the second week in a row, this time 15-0 at the hands of Hanover.
